As a bit of an experiment I installed a addon called "LinkOff." It's a filter customization addon for LinkedIn. The content isn't completely removed, it's just greyed out a bit so you can easily skip over it. I only have it set to hide promoted posts, shared posts, and company posts. In theory this would limit what is visible to just the posts made by peers. It's astounding how little there is once I remove those three items though.

Now granted, 90% of my contacts are peers in the tech industry so that may speak more to tech folk not being the target audience for LinkedIn as opposed to my experience being applicable to a broader swath and that most people are seeing a dearth of content from peers. I'm curious if other people's experience with it are similar.

In the poll below I'm using "I work in tech" as a blanket label for anyone in the , , , etc. community. I tried to offer enough choices to cover all the available options.

This is just for my own edification. I think I'm just trying to figure out what other folks actually use LinkedIn for if they use it at all. I honestly only go to LinkedIn regularly if I'm unhappy in my job and looking, or if I'm managing a team, hiring, and I want to get in touch with an old peer.

BEESAT-1 is a 1U cubesat launched in 2009 by the TU of Berlin. It has redundant computers onboard, so when the first one failed in 2011, it just switched over to the second. And when the backup failed in 2013, well, the satellite was dead or rather sending back all zeroes.

How can I share IT and cybersecurity advice if my brain threatens a full meltdown when I Ieave the confines of Steam and go into the rest of the Win 11 OS

I was watching a dude diagnose and repair a Dell laptop. I was like "cool, that was well done, some good IT repair sleuthing. I learned something."

Then the HDD was locked by Bitlocker. HE has a tool to reset bitlocker and other firmware locks. Most people *DON'T*.

Anti Repair is disgusting. I need to go.

Anyways, I get stomach pains and nausea when I think of having to block Microsoft's AI "features" from spying, And tricking me into accidentally agreeing to something I don't want. (Its happened before.)
(I think Copilot is only available for windows pro But that's not going to stop Microsoft.)

(They played those mind games in Windows Update when switching from win 8 to win 10.)

Anyways here's the video with comments.

With Linux Mint, I pretty much followed the prompts. Then I had to customize things for my personal accessibility. Then I had to install a list of apps that I needed and liked.

It was stressful for ME (because Autism doesn't tolerate change very well) but it was better over the days, weeks and months.

(I do IT/work with computers.) When it's a company coming and re-arranging your home WRONG, you're gonna get upset yeah That's what Microsoft did.

I was approaching a meltdown setting up my newer gaming computer for the first time with Windows 11. I had to do those tricks from videos and set up things multiple times.

And tell Microsoft NO, I don't want to link my Microsoft account. Local account ONLY. They almost wouldn't take no for an answer. I had to have my friend on speed dial I was getting so upset.

I'm still so mad and overwhelmed that everything familiar was moved in Win 11. I don't do change well at all.

Someone on this video said they're still on Windows 7. This person's guardian angel must be working *Overtime*.

I made the switch to Linux Mint (daily driver) back in 2023 because I didn't want the stress of learning Windows 11. (Win 11 is on my gaming computer and it has frustrated me for over a year.)

Folks are openly stating what version of Win they're on and why in the video comments.
It baffles me why a company wouldn't listen to its customers/users.

Listening to yet another video warning users to make a plan for Windows 10 EOL. (Am drawing.) Folks still aren't switching.

Microsoft is using the vinegar method as opposed to the honey method IMO.

But all this time, I've wanted to ask: HEY MICROSOFT, HAVE YOU ASKED USERS WHY THEY WON'T SWITCH
OR ARE YOU JUST GOING TO IGNORE THEM AND FORCE THEM

This is some very unprecedented user behavior. You would think they'd do a fucking survey instead of tyranny.

In IT especially, no matter how much hands on victory you have someone will casually mention some concept that you cant explain on the spot, and this bothers you.
